FAQ: Terminology

This is a list of terms and definitions used in Inspire. We are continuing to add to this list. If you don't see a term you are looking for here, please drop us a line through Feedback and let us know.

Terminology

TERM	DEFINITION
Carry forward	A metric or a milestone that you want to advance to a new performance period (something you've already been working on but want to measure moving forward, either stating new , or carrying it forward from where it was when the last performance period ended).
Check-In	A status update. Usually a statement of your recent accomplishments, it often includes updating a unit of measurement indicating your progress on one or more key results associated with your check-in.
Follow	Follow an objective or person. Considered an Inspire Best Practice. Allows you to see the objective and key results, but not add/change/delete anything. You are not a contributor to the objective or key results associated with the objective. Followed objectives appear in the Objectives module on the Objectives I Follow tab, and on the My Profile page in the Social tab.
Metric	A quantitative number that you have identified.
Milestone	An event, task, or set of tasks you want to achieve by a certain date.--
Monitor	Monitor an objective. Sometimes referred to as fly-on-the-wall. Can only be done when you are the Objective owner. Maintains your ownership of the objective. Allows you, as the objective owner, to make changes to the objective and key result(s) including add/change/delete. The objective appears in the Objective widget on your home page.
OKR	Objectives & Key Results.
OKRA	Objectives & Key Results Activities.
Personal	Objective perspective attribute. A personal growth-oriented objective.
Private	Objective sharing attribute. Sharing is Private, between you and your manager.
Professional	Objective perspective attribute. A professional-oriented objective.
Public	Objective sharing attribute. Sharing is Public; fully transparent to everyone in the company.
Shared Key Result	Shared Key Result is allowed if you have more than one contributor on a Key Result. If you choose Shared vs. Individual- All contributors have the ability to update progress. The most recent update will override the progress.
Widget	Used to customize a Dashboard or a Home Screen, a widget is an "at-a-glance" view of useful data.
