Leadership Genius
Leadership Genius is an Inspire feature that helps employees and leaders understand how people progress through goals by identifying their current Phase of Performance. By recognizing the right phase, Inspire helps with communication, leadership strategies and helps individuals accelerate progress and stay aligned on their OKRs (Goals).

Navigate to Learning via the Waffle menu in the upper right corner of Inspire:

Navigate to Library

Select Categories - Leadership Genius - View All Leadership Genius Courses

Select a Course and Select + My Learning - Yes


Select Launch

Objectives Module
Leadership Genius Tools within the Objective Module:
- SMART Assessment
- Phase of Performance
- Motivation Assessment
Users can utilize the SMART Assessment, set their Phase of Performance, and utilize the Motivation Assessment to help them have more effective communication with their leaders.
Every objective goes through natural stages based on a person’s Ability and Energy toward the goal. These stages are called Phases of Performance.
Phases of Performance Overview

Identifying your phase helps you and your leader:
- Understand what support is needed
- Improve communication and coaching
- Overcome roadblocks
- Maintain momentum toward OKR completion
Important: Phase of Performance does not indicate job performance. It is simply a productive way to identify where someone is in their journey toward completing an Objective.
The Phase of Performance blends two factors:
Ability -Represents the skills, knowledge, and resources required to achieve the Objective. Ability is low when starting new work and increases over time.
Energy - Represents enthusiasm and motivation. Energy naturally fluctuates depending on progress, challenges, or changing priorities.
The combination of Ability and Energy determines the Phase of Performance.
The five Phases of Performance are:
1. Curious - A common starting point for new Objectives. You are motivated but still gaining the skills needed.Ability: Low
Energy: High
2. Confronting- Challenges appear and motivation dips. This phase is critical for problem solving and learning.
Ability: Low to Some
Energy: Low
3. Cautious -You understand the work but motivation uneven. Often occurs after overcoming early roadblocks.
Ability: Moderate to High
Energy: Fluctuating
Ability: High
Energy: High
A good moment to revisit priorities or evolve the Objective.
Ability: High
Energy: Low
Using the Phase of Performance Assessment Tool – Objectives
You can set your phase manually or complete a short assessment.
To Launch the Phase Assessment
- Navigate to Objectives from the Waffle Menu or Add an Objective from the Objective Activity Widget.
- Create or edit an Objective.
- Scroll to the bottom and choose Launch Assessment.

- Answer four simple questions to identify your phase.
- Choose Low or Some / High
- Or switch to Advanced Builder to select descriptive words that match how you feel
Your Phase of Performance now displays throughout Inspire including within your 1-1s so your manager can coach you appropriately.
SMART Objective Tool Assessment
Choose the Objective you want to evaluate and click the Edit icon.

At the bottom of the Objective page, click any of the SMART buttons.

If you do not see the SMART button:
- Click the Options drop down menu in the upper right corner and select Tools.
- Turn on the SMART Objective Assessment slider and click Launch.
Completing the Assessment

- Answer the three questions for the selected SMART category to determine if your Objective meets the criteria.
- Once you complete the questions for a letter, the circle will display the results:
- Green – all answers were Yes
- Yellow – one or more answers were Not Sure
- Red – one or more answers were No
- A No always overrides a Not Sure

You can use the Clear Selections link to reset your answers in the current section, or use the Back button to revisit earlier questions.
- When you finish answering the questions for a letter, click Next to move to the next category.
- After completing all five letters, click Apply in the upper right corner to save your results.
Reevaluating Your Objective
As your Objective evolves, you can relaunch the SMART Objective Assessment Tool at any time to reevaluate and refine your work.

1-1 Module -Leadership Genius Tools for Supervisors
Supervisors can use the Leadership Genius features to guide more effective conversations in the 1-1 Module.
As a Supervisor looking at your Direct Reports Objectives / Goals - Observe the Phase of Performance. In the Example below - The Supervisor can have a conversation around this Objective being set to the Curious Stage.

With Phase of Performance - leaders can:
- Anticipate roadblocks
- Tailor coaching
- Monitor Energy and Ability
- Encourage meaningful progress
- AI suggested responses that adjust based on your Phase of Performance type.

Using AI Suggestions
When replying to objective comments:
- Click Suggestions.
- Select Use Inspire AI assistant.
- AI generates responses based on your Phase of Performance.
- Adjust tone or length if needed.
- Click Post to send.
