How to Customize Progress Calculations for Numeric Key Results (LTKR & CKR)
Steps to Setting Sum or Average Calculations for Numeric Key Results
As an Admin / Strategy Admin / CO Owner, you can control how progress is calculated for numeric key results (LTKR or CKR) by selecting between Sum and Average, ensuring alignment calculations reflect your strategy more accurately.
1. Start by Adding or Editing a KR
- Navigate to Objectives → Corporate Strategy
- For the relevant Corporate Objective, add or edit a Long-Term Key Result (LTKR) or a Company Key Result (CKR).
2. Set Key Result Measure to Numeric
-
In the KR setup, choose Numeric as the key result Measure.
-
This enables additional calculation options.
3. Choose Progress Calculation Method
You’ll now see the following two dropdown options under Calculate Progress:
-
-
Sum (default): Totals up progress across linked key results.
-
Average: Calculates the mean of linked key results’ progress.
-
🔒 Note: Once one Team KR directly aligns and the LTKR / CKR is set to Sum or Average, the setting is locked and can no longer be changed.
4. Require Same Units of Measure (Optional but Recommended)
-
Enable “Require same units of measure” to ensure consistency across all linked KRs.
-
This setting helps maintain alignment integrity when using Sum or Average.
⚠️ If you're summing progress, this option may be force-enabled to prevent unit mismatches.
5. Save the KR
-
Click Save to apply the selected calculation method and settings.
-
If the CKR has linked KRs, your selection may now be locked.
Additional Notes
-
CKR = Company Key Result
-
LTKR = Long Term Key Result
-
Settings can only be changed before any KR is directly aligned.
-
To modify a locked calculation setting, you’ll need to remove all direct alignments first.
