# Using Inspire in Copilot and Claude (Inspire MCP)

## The Inspire Agent lets you ask questions about your Inspire data and make updates in plain language, right from the AI tool your organization uses, such as Microsoft Copilot or Claude. You don't need to open Inspire to check on your goals or log progress.

  The agent connects to Inspire in two ways: 

| **Connection** | **What it does** | **Examples** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Inspire MCP | Reads your Inspire data | See your objectives, key results, tasks, and who is on your team |
| Inspire Actions MCP | Reads and updates your Inspire data | Check in on an objective, update a key result, complete a task, add to a 1-1 agenda |

Your organization may turn on one or both. If you can only read data, your admin has chosen not to allow updates through AI.

#### **Before you start**

Your IT or Inspire admin handles the setup. Once they tell you the agent is ready, you only need two things:

- **An active Inspire account.** The email address on your Inspire account should match the Microsoft account you sign in with. A mismatch is a common cause of sign-in errors.
- **Access to the AI tool your organization uses.** For Copilot, that means a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. For Claude, that means a Claude account in your organization.

If you're not sure whether the agent has been set up for your organization, ask your admin before following the steps below.

#### **Using Inspire in Microsoft Copilot**

Your admin builds one Inspire Agent in Copilot Studio and shares it with your organization. You'll find it in Microsoft 365 Copilot. If your admin also adds it to Teams, you can use it there too.

1. Open Microsoft 365 Copilot (or Teams, if your admin added the agent there).
2. Select Agents in the left panel, then choose the Inspire agent. Your admin chooses the name, so ask them what it's called if you don't see it.
3. Ask a question, such as "What are my objectives?" Your Inspire data should come back.

#### **Using Inspire in Claude**

In Claude, Inspire is installed as a plugin. Follow the steps in **How to Install the Inspire Plugin for Claude**. Once it's installed, start a new chat and ask "What are my objectives in Inspire?"

#### **Things to try**

Start with a read question to confirm you're connected, then try an update. Mentioning "Inspire" in your question helps the agent use the right source.

You can also ask the agent for coaching, like "Help me create an objective."

#### Try Asking:

- What are my objectives in Inspire?
- Which of my key results are behind?
- What tasks do I have due this week?
- Who is on my team in Inspire?
- Add a check-in to my objective (Objective Name) saying (Your Update)
- Update the progress on my key result (Key Result Name) to 60%
- Mark my task (Task Name) as complete
- Add (Topic) to the agenda for my next 1-1 with (Manager Name)

After your first few updates, open Inspire and check that the change looks the way you expected.

#### Good to know

**Note: You'll need to reconnect now and then.** The connection needs to be renewed periodically, typically every 30 to 90 days. Sometimes you'll get a prompt to reconnect, but not always. If Inspire stops responding, answers stop including your Inspire data, or a scheduled task stops working, reconnect and sign in again.

- **You only see what you can already see in Inspire.** The agent signs in as you and uses the same permissions as the Inspire web app. It can't show or change anything you couldn't in Inspire yourself.
- **Your admin controls what the agent can do.** They can turn off individual tools, such as updates, for everyone.
- **Check where an answer came from.** If an answer looks generic or doesn't match Inspire, ask again and include "in Inspire" in your question.

#### Troubleshooting

| **What you see** | **What to try** |
| --- | --- |
| A sign-in or consent error the first time you connect | Your organization's Microsoft admin may still need to approve Inspire. Let your admin know. |
| "Unauthorized" or a connection request failure | Confirm the email on your Inspire account matches your Microsoft sign-in. If it does, let your admin know so they can contact Inspire. |
| The agent says it can't find any objectives | Start a new chat and ask again, including "in Inspire." Then check that you have objectives in Inspire itself. |
| The agent asks you to reconnect | Your connection expired. Follow the prompt and sign in again. |
| You can read data but updates don't work | Your organization may have turned off updates. Check with your admin. |
| You can't find the Inspire Agent in your AI tool | Ask your admin for the agent's name and confirm it has been shared with you. |
